While enjoying some leisure at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo Boston Red Socks' David Ortiz was shot. Reports say that the gunmen approach Ortiz from behind and shot him point-blank in the back. Patronizes stunned as the gunmen tried to flee the scene on a waiting motorcycle driven Eddy Vladimir Feliz García who lost control of the bike which led to the beating and capture of two assailants.
Reports from ESPN.com say the alleged gunman Rolfy Ferreyra was paid USD 7,800 to shot the 43-year-old three-time World Series Champion for allegedly sleeping with an unnamed drug lords wife. So far, this allegation has not is confirmed.
Ortiz sustained several internal injuries to his liver, intestines, in addition to having his gallbladder removed.
Ortiz has been transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital to have additional surgeries where his surgical team has been lead by Dr. David King. Dr. King reports that the baseball superstar is recuperating in Mass Generals ICU and making good progress.
