On the border of Winsor, Ontario - Canadian nurse Terri Leanne Maxwell was arrested by Customs and Border Protection for allegedly trying to smuggle 153 pounds of cannabis from Canada into the United States.
According to a clickondetroit report, the healthcare worker attempted to use the Ambassador Bridge crossing into Detroit just after 9 am on April 23rd. Maxwell dressed in head to toe scrubs, lab coat, and personal medical badge from Henry Ford Hospital. Maxwell was stopped by border patrol to check her credentials before letting anyone through despite her health careworker badge being visible.
Currently, between Canada and the United States, they have closed down the border to all travel except for "essential" healthcare workers.
Once the Customs and Border Protection officer viewed Terri's credentials, the Protection officer then instructed to open her trunk so they could inspect the trunk of her car before sending her on her way. According to the Border agent, when Maxwell's trunk opened, you could immediately smell marijuana coming for the vehicle. Agents found more than 153 pounds of marijuana place in bags in the trunk.
Terri Leanne Maxwell hospital system Henry Ford Health released a statement saying:
"We were extremely disappointed to learn about these allegations. The employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this criminal investigation."
Maxwell is facing several controlled substance-related charges. She is facing up to 20 years in prison.
