Charlotte Figi - Cannabis's youngest pioneer and advocate, passed away yesterday from complications with the COVID-19 virus. Some know her as Charlotte Figi, but many more knew her as the face Charlotte's Web CBD cannabis strain has died at the age of thirteen according to a public post from her mother Paige Figi's Facebook page.
Who is Charlotte Figi?
Charlotte was a young girl from Colorado Springs, Colorado, who suffered from seizures starting at the age of three months old. After suffering from extreme seizures, doctors diagnosed Charlotte with a rare form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome, which was causing her to have up to 300 seizures a day by the age of 3. Around this time, Charlotte was losing her ability to walk, so Matt and Paige Figi resorted to looking away from mainstream treatments and researched alternatives for solutions to help their daughter.
Charlotte's parents decide to try CBD after doing extensive research surrounding the benefits of cannabis. Paige, Charlotte's mother, visited a Denver area dispensary and purchased two ounces of cannabis extract that yielding low in THC and high CBD ratio.
The Figi's found that within hours of giving Charlotte the cannabis extract, they saw the number of seizures she was having significantly reduce overtime by scheduling small doses multiple times a day. By sticking to a strict dosing schedule, Charlotte was only having two to three seizures a month, allowing her to discontinue taking her prescribed seizure medications.
What is Charlotte's Web?
The Figi family teamed up with cannabis growers The Stanley brothers that were in the works of creating a strain that was high in CBD and low in THC content. After creating several different extracts, they found an effective formula that was perfect for treating Charlotte's epilepsy. Inspired by Charlotte's willpower and drive, The Stanley Brothers named the strain Charlotte's Web.
The Stanley Brothers also a non-profit organization that donates Charlottes Web to children and adults suffering from various ailments and diseases called the Realm of Caring Foundation.
Family friend Nichole spoke for the family stating:
"Charlotte is no longer suffering. She is seizure-free forever. Thank you so much for all of your love. Please respect their privacy at this time."
