New Balance must be praising NYC-based brand Aimé Leon Dore for drip the label has managed to add to the sneaker brand's high-profile retro New Balance 550. After what seemed like a long break from the spotlight, the luxury imprint label has single-handedly brought New Balance's archived silhouette back to life. The sneaker designer is coming back strong after creating a buzz for themselves last year by adopting new collaborative designs for their footwear. These new models have helped revitalize the lifestyle sneaker brand to release some additional colorways of the 550.
For this Spring/Summer 2021 series, the retro basketball-inspired sneaker will be available in three eye-catching colorways: "Sea Salt/Burgundy," "Sea Salt/Varsity Gold," and "Sea Salt/Black." According to the company, these retro sneaker versions are inspired by the initial launches of the New Balance 550 in 1989. Each of these models is primarily made of the same smooth white leather as the original 1989 releases, with the addition of grey suede panels at the toe and heel.
These classic variations let the primary and secondary colors speak for themselves. The sneakers feature secondary colors on the iconic N logos on the side and 550 branding, tongue tags, and heel molds with vivid color accents. The entire look is then completed by the colorless midsoles, which are starkly different from the outsoles, which have the same contrasting tones as the upper half.
On May 7, the latest pairs of the New Balance 550 will be available via New Balance's official website and at other select retailers. The shoes have a price tag of $120.
