Contemporary Artist Takashi Murakami Has Partnered With Hublot To Release His Smiling Flower Motif In A Fusion All-Black Timepiece For The Brand.
You can't miss what you never had. And until the masterpiece that was the All-Black Takashi x Hublot was released earlier this month, I didn't know I needed it either.
Takashi Murakami is well versed with high profile collaborations, having joined forces with Louis Vuitton and Vans' likes over time. So when news of Takashi and his legendary flower motif stepping foot into the world of Hublot was aired, the industry was in a frenzy.
The journey began on Lake Geneva in February 2020, where Hublot's manufacture is located. Within a year, the collaboration was complete, with the All-Black releasing at the Ginza location.
The result was a watch embedded with 456 black diamonds in the 12 petals and 107 in the smiling face, boasting a 72-hour reserve, sapphire glass, and a ball-bearing system specifically designed to make the petals turn, making the smiling flower look like three dimensional, rotating art.
What left everyone befuddled was the collaboration resulting in an All-Black piece since Takashi is famous for his vibrance and brilliance with his art. It was later revealed that the black aesthetic was a request made by Takashi himself since Hublot's first impression was their conventional black strap. Quite the spin, isn't it?
But even if Takashi's art couldn't be displayed with its exuberant colors, Hublot embodied it with the eccentric diamonds and the famous smiling flower's movement.
However, there is one thing that might put a dent in your hopes of owning the watch. Hublot has decided to release only 200 models of this make, adding to its reputation. The watch currently retails at $27,300, more than double the standard ceramic Classic Fusion watch's price.
But there's still some light at the end of the tunnel. Takashi has hinted that this will not be his last collaboration with the brand, and Hublot is renowned for letting good things up live their time. Who knows what we'll get to see in the future?
Anyone in ownership of this watch will indeed have a timeless artifact as a collector's item.
