Tennessee Man Jailed After Smoking Joint in Courtroom

20-year-old Tennessee local Spencer Boston appeared in court to face a simple marijuana citation when he proceeded to lit a joint in the middle of the courtroom.

After Judge Haywood Barry addressed Boston about the marijuana charges, Boston shocked everyone in the courtroom by going off on a segway about his views about how marijuana should be legalized.  During his speech, Spencer then reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a joint and proceeds to light it. As Boston took several puffs from his joint, he turned to the viewers behind him and said, "The people deserve better."

Court officers reported that many guests laughed out loud at Boston's bold commitment to marijuana reform before the Wilson County Sheriff's Office to him into custody.

Lt. Scott Moore of the Wilson County Sheriff's Office in an interview with WKRN stated:
"I've been in law enforcement for 20 years, and this is by far the most bizarre thing I have seen in a courtroom. He is a lot braver than I am."  "When you go in front of a judge, there is a high level of respect in court that must be maintained, and he definitely disrespected the judge and the courtroom so there should be consequences."

Spencer's bold marijuana reform tactics have gone viral, and there is now a GoFundMe account that says, "Free Spencer," to help him pay his $1,500 Bond. Unfortunately, for Boston, due to his contempt of court Judge Haywood Barry sentenced him to 10 days in jail in addition to his original charge.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 14, 2020.
