The West Coast Sets The Tone For Cannabis Lounges and Cafes: Part II

Just days after the launch of Lowells: A Cannabis Cafe's debut in sunny West Hollywood, CA Las Vegas-based dispensary NuWu launches the first consumption lounge in Las Vegas, NV.

NuWu's consumption lounge is a first of its kind in Las Vegas and has many high in the clouds with excitement. The launch of The Vegas Tasting Room comes to a shock to many as Nevada lawmakers recently decided to delay cannabis consumption lounges until July 2021. Here'sHere's how NuWu was able to secure their place in history within the cannabis industry.

The Las Vegas Paiute Tribe owns NuWu: A Cannabis Marketplace, which sits on sovereign land just North of Downtown Las Vegas, spanning 16,000 square feet.

By the Paiute tribe owning this piece of sovereign land, the same regulations as other cannabis facilities throughout the Las Vegas area do not apply. NuWu is self-governed by the Las Vegas Paiute Cannabis Authority who greenlighted Las Vegas's first consumption lounge within NuWu's marketplace.

Former chairman for the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe, Benny Tso states,

""This just gave the tribe three more generations," Tso says. ""Economically for the tribe, it puts us in the position of becoming fully self-sufficient,"" Tso says the tribe entered into the cannabis industry as a way to diversify income streams. Revenues will go toward education, elder care, health, and government services for the tribe. "People have asked before if we knew what we were doing because cannabis is such a provocative subject. Yes, we do know what we're doing. We know the conditions of our tribe and its members, what they struggle with. This is why we're doing that. We can [now afford] to look at things we weren't able to before."
