Following the tragic death of hip hop artist and pioneer Earl Simmons, a.k.a. DMX, Kanye West's apparel and footwear label, YEEZY, has partnered with Balenciaga to create a tribute tee to the late rapper.
The tribute tee was modeled by Demna Gvasalia of French Fashion House, commissioned by Kanye West's label YEEZY to honor the rapper's legacy, who died earlier this month, April, at the age of 50.
Kanye, a close friend of the late rapper has directed that all proceeds from the tee sales go directly to the late icon's family. The DMX T-shirt sold out in just 24 hours, raising upwards of $1 million in gross sales. It's heartwarming to see Kanye go above and beyond for X's fans as he is going through a heartbreak of his own stemming from the divorce of his wife, Kim Kardashian.
West conducted his Sunday Service Choir for the late rapper's ceremony performing songs "Keep on Movin" by Soul II Soul, "You Brought the Sunshine" by The Clark Sisters, "Jesus Loves Me by Jesus Loves Me," and "Excellent" by Soul II Soul at the ceremony. According to TMZ, Kanye remained silent for most of the ceremony but assisted in the stage's set up and collaborated with graphic artist Akeem Smith on the stage's layout.
The retro long-sleeved faded black T-shirt features an all-original screen-printed artwork by DMX on the front. The honorary tee also features the text "IN LOVING MEMORY" on the back, as well as the dates of birth and death, "12.18.1970" on the right sleeve, and "04.09.2021" on the left sleeve.
The Balenciaga x YEEZY DMX Tribute Tee retailed for $200, and the oversized tee is made entirely of heavyweight cotton.
